Assemblyman Phillip Chen Endorses Nathan Hochman for Attorney General
August 11, 2021

Los Angeles, CA – Assemblyman Phillip Chen, the representative of California’s 55th State Assembly District, has announced his support for former US Assistant Attorney General and candidate for California Attorney General, Nathan Hochman, in the race to unseat Newsom appointee Rob Bonta in 2022.

In announcing his endorsement, Assemblyman Chen explained: “Whether it be EDD fraud, rising crime, or the homelessness epidemic, the past year has made it clear that we need new leaders in Sacramento to turn our state around. Nathan Hochman has unrivaled experience, character, and integrity— and will bring a fresh perspective in tackling the tough issues plaguing our state. I fully endorse Nathan Hochman to be our next Attorney General”

In response to the endorsement, Nathan remarked: “Phillip Chen has been a bold leader for sensible criminal justice policy in our state. It is an honor to have him join our growing team as we build a campaign that will defeat Rob Bonta and restore public safety to California.”

Prior to his election to the State Assembly, Chen served as an LA County Reserve Sheriff’s Deputy and worked in the Governor’s Office of Criminal Justice Planning.

Nathan Hochman is a Los Angeles native who graduated Brown University and earned his law degree from Stanford Law School. After finishing law school, Nathan clerked for a US District Court Judge in Los Angeles before becoming an Assistant US Attorney for the Central District of California. In 2008, Nathan was appointed by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the US Senate as US Assistant Attorney General overseeing the Department of Justice’s Tax Division. After leaving DOJ, Nathan has had a successful career as a defense attorney and partner in two international law firms.

Nathan launched his campaign for Attorney General at the end of April and has since raised nearly a million dollars—establishing himself as a frontrunner in the race to challenge Gavin Newsom appointed Attorney General Rob Bonta in the 2022 election.
